A Cabinet of Unnatural Curiosities
12.5”X15”X6”
Wood, Foam, Wire, Plastic, Paper Mache
This piece is inspired by the cabinets of curiosities of the 1800s filled with items that piqued the collector’s interest. Many of the original cabinets featured specimens or parts of specimens like skulls or hides or horns. For this project, the artist chose to reimagine the cabinet of curiosity, using three-dimensional body parts of her own personal characters as the specimens. In creating this piece, the artist wanted to combine her love of history, especially the odder aspects, with the characters she has made, and in doing so she hoped to blur the lines between art, science, and history. It is important to note that this piece is meant to be seen in conjunction with the artist’s other displayed piece “Unsuspecting Victims of Mad Science”.
